Owners comments...
There was something special about him…starting at the very beginning, even before his eyes were open, he talked a lot and was the first to "walk" up to the playing radio and howl. I remember my husband vehemently saying that "we were not taking that pup", because we already had a "talker" at home (his mother).
At four weeks of age, while on a puppy visit, I made sure to hold each pup and talk to them. Little did I know that Emerald Boy would make direct eye contact with me with a look as though he was able to see to the back of my brain (or my heart?!). Becoming a little spooked by this little puppy's actions, I put him down making a comment that he "was too little" to be having such strong senses already.
Each visit, this little "Emerald Man" would make sure to watch every move I made.
Four weeks later, at eight weeks of age, guess who the one who "picked us"! "The Talker" ~ who was later named Chapeau (Po). Full of life and very happy, he smiles with a big toothy grin every time he greets me and will still try to leap into my arms as though he still weighs ten pounds.
Now four years old, Po has filled out to be a very handsome male. With a long black coat, almond-shaped brown eyes and ears that sit on top of his head, he is graceful in his movement. Typical Belgian, he is always on guard and is protective of his family - especially his "mom". He loves to play games like fetch, "run around the sofa" (which is a game his mother made up), and "Garbage Man" (throwing garbage down the hallway when he feels I haven't given him enough attention). He is lost without his nightly ritual of having to sit in my lap.
I believe that if I could carry Chapeau with me all the time, either in my pocket or my hand bag, he would be very happy. While independent, he is a big "Mama's Boy". He's a very smart guy who needs to be told new words just a few times before he understands. He loves to be talked to and is a great communicator.
Po has become a very important part of this family. We are forever grateful to Roxanne Chumbley and Tim Beihoff for suggesting this breeding and being our co-breeders. We truly appreciate all the support over the years.
